Approach and Policy

Amid growing concerns over global food shortages caused by population growth and climate change, as well as increasing societal demands for carbon neutrality, the TaKaRa Group aim to contribute to society beyond its traditional business domains such as "food" and "health" by leveraging its core compitancy in biotechnology.
The Group will invest management resources in new biotechnology-based businesses while strengthening partnerships and utilizing internal and external assets and expertise across functions.

starTreasure: Internal New Business Development Program

Since October 2024, we have been running “starTreasure,” an internal open-call new business development program. Through workshops on new business creation and a bottom-up business contest, the program encourages employees to take the initiative in creating new value and fosters a culture of innovation across the organization.

Internal Venture Creation

We have initiated efforts to develop concrete new business opportunities in collaboration with members of Takara Bio Inc. As part of these efforts, we regularly exchange ideas and conduct site visits to deepen nutual understanding of each company's strenguths , capabilities, and assets. By combining Takara Shuzo’s assets and expertise, including fermentation, distillation, and blending technologies, quality control know-how, beverage production facilities, and manufacturing by-products, with Takara Bio’s gene and cell engineering technologies, as well as its facilities for producing recombinant proteins and various enzymes, we strive to create innovative businesses that can only be realized through the unique synergies of the Takara Group.

Business Development Driven by External Partnerships

Launch of a Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) Fund

By investing in and collaborating with startups and venture companies that possess outstanding technologies and valuable assets, we seek to accelerate open innovation and gain insights that add new value to our existing businesses. At the same time, these efforts will contribute to the development of new businesses outlined in the Takara Group Long-Term Vision 2050. Through these initiatives, we aim to achieve the sustainable growth of the Takara Group and realize the Group Vision: “Smiles in Life.

Investment Strategy Operated as a direct investment-type Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) initiative without establishing a dedicated fund.
Investment Areas Biotechnology-focused opportunities and a wide range of fields that contribute to addressing societal challenges and creating new value.

Limited Partner (LP) Investments

We have invested in the SBI Venture Fund 2023 Investment Limited Partnership, a venture capital fund managed and administered by SBI Investment Co., Ltd.,. Through this investment, we aim to gain access to new business opportunities from a long-term perspective, as well as insights and information that can create additional value for our existing businesses. We believe these efforts will contribute to the sustainable growth of the Takara Group.
