Takara Shuzo International Group

Branching out from sake brewing in the U.S. to partnering with Japanese food wholesalers to share Japanese food culture with the world

Our first substantial overseas expansion was in 1983, when we established Takara Sake USA Inc. to produce and sell Sho Chiku Bai produced in California. Although producing sake using local rice and water demanded much ingenuity, we successfully leveraged our robust technical capabilities to achieve the same standards of flavor and quality as our Japanese product. Today, Sho Chiku Bai has grown into the top sake brand in the U.S., and Takara Group boasts the largest share of the global sake market.

The partnerships we have formed with Japanese food wholesalers in the U.S. and Europe, such as our group companies Mutual Trading Co., Inc. in the U.S. and Foodex S.A.S in France, have also greatly helped to spread Japanese food culture.

In addition to running our Japanese culinary school and experience centers in the U.S. where visitors can learn about sake culture, we also work to share Japanese food culture by participating in exhibitions around the world and holding seminars on cooking techniques.

Building an extensive global network covering manufacturing to sales

Takara Shuzo International Group has sake production facilities and Japanese food wholesale companies all over the world. We also have strong connections with many Japanese restaurants and retailers around the world, which allows us to listen directly to their real-world needs, from upstream to downstream. Through these relationships, we collect feedback on our products and services along with up-to-date information on food trends, which we leverage to develop new products and improve our services.

One of our strengths is our ability to meet our customers’ highly individualized needs through our vast selection of not only Japanese foods, washu, and seasonings, but also cooking utensils and tableware. We also provide post-sale support for chefs opening new Japanese restaurants, including a service where experts brought in from Japan teach handling and sharpening of Japanese knives.

Takara Shuzo International Group is committed to spreading Japanese food culture (washu and Japanese food) throughout the world and helping our customers all over the world to live rich lives filled with smiles.
